Plymouth has a long history and figures not only int history of England but reaches further across the globe.
There is mention of a settlement in the vicinity back in the 2nd century in writings by Ptolemy Claudius, a Greek-Egyptian Astronomer and Geographer and so must be figured significant to warrant the mention. Plymouth's exsitence and fame all of course extend from its position on the sea.
Plymouth is based at the bottom of a great bay and has two major river inlets, the Plym and the Tamar which join in the bay to form the Plymouth Sound. The River Tamar to the west where Devonport Dockyards are sited and are Wetsern Europes largest Naval Dockyard and Base.
