The Jardim Bot?nico da Madeira is a botanical garden in Funchal, Madeira, opened to the public in 1960. The area was previously part of an estate belonging to the family of William Reid, founder of Reid's Hotel.
The garden displays over two thousand exotic plants both local and from all over the world such as Orchids, Magnolias, Azaleas, Palms, Ferns and Cacti. Although a botanical garden is a beautiful place that exposes colour and fragrance, it is also a place of science and culture.
Within the ?Jardim Bot?nico? there is a small Natural History Museum displaying collections of birds, fossils, rocks, minerals, animals, invertebrates and other vertebrates, an Amphitheatre, Louro Birdd Park, a terrace caf? and a belvedere which shows off a fantastic view of Funchal.
